Auditions

Audition Information

Eligible dancers audition once a year to be part of the Mankato Ballet Performing Company (MBPC) or Mankato Ballet Performing Ensemble (MBPE).  Those who are taken into the MBPC are ranked by Soloist, Demi Soloist, Corps de Ballet, Apprentice and Trainee. Dancers in the Ensemble are a collective performing group and are not ranked.

Once a member of the MBPC, the dancers take a 2-hour weekly Company Class in addition to their regular classes and have mandatory rehearsals 2-3 times a week for performances that occur 3 times a year.

Once a member of the MBPE, the dancers take an additional 1-hour class per week and learn different dances that will be performed in the community throughout the year. Occasionally, dancers from the MBPE may be asked to perform smaller parts in the Company’s full-length productions.

The MBPC and MBPE dancers engage the community and youth through mini performances and interactive opportunities throughout the year.

Auditions

Auditions are held each spring on the first Saturday in May.  Auditions are typically given by a guest instructor.  MBC staff members join in observing the dancers and make recommendations. Dancers may audition for Company or Ensemble. Dancers who audition for the Performing Company and do not make it in may be offered a spot in the Ensemble.  Final decisions are at the discretion of the Artistic Director.
